Conner is going
to love Snow College! I go to Montevideo at 3 am on Tuesday and I am so
excited! I don’t have much time but I wanted to share a story with you about Saturday.
So here’s my
story...we were out Proselyting and we got to this new area that was a little
less poor. At first, we were getting to talk to a lot of people and acquiring
many references, but no really long lessons like we wanted. Then, we knocked on
this door and a sweet old lady came out and said she'd love to have us come in.
As we went in, there was another woman sitting down with her Bible ready and a
smirk on her face. Their son was there, but he had no desire for religion.
After we started off with a weird prayer (where they yelled amen a lot and
talked during our prayer). I started talking about our purpose as missionaries.
The woman saw my companion (who I love very very much still!) and yelled, NO NO
LIBRO DE MORMON IN MY HOUSE! BIBLIA SOLOMENTE. So, we said that was fine. She
went on a large rant about the Sabbath day being on Saturday… and stuff that I
couldn't understand. After getting chastised for a long time, she said, “you
boys don't even know the truth, you are just doing things after the traditions
of your fathers...” after I heard that, I stopped her right there, and in
broken Spanish, I said with a powerful voice. “You can yell at us about your
beliefs and tell us that ours our wrong, but you cannot tell me what I believe
and why I believe it. I KNOW that I have been called by GOD to do this work. I
would never leave my home in the United States to come all the way to Argentina
if I didn't know for an absolute surety that God sent me here to bring others
unto Christ and His Gospel that brings forth endless happiness.” I said a lot
more and everyone in the room got really silent. After a minute of thinking, I
bore my small testimony and told her that we weren't here to argue about the Sabbath
day... we were here to help the people we love, God's children, understand that
they can be cleansed through the atonement of Christ and be happy for forever.
After that, one started crying, and the other apologized a lot and made us
little treats:)
It was very frustrating throughout the
entire hour we were there, but the 5 minutes of witnessing them feeling the
spirit was worth it! Miss you all and keep me updated!
Love,
Elder McRae
